Chiusi della Verna
Chiusi della Verna (950 m a.s.l.) is a mountain town in Casentino, in the provinve of Arezzo. It is within the Casentino Forests, Monte Falterona and Campigna National Park and is the town at the feet of the Verna Sanctuary where Francis of Assisi received his stigmata in 1224, also cited by Dante Alighieri "Nel crudo sasso intra Tevere et Arno". You can spend a relaxing holiday here and admire the natural beauty with walks along the many paths in the protected area and the surrounding area.
A symbol of Chiusi della Verna is the medieval castle of Count Orlando Cattani, its remains can be seen today. Every year in July is a revocation of the donation of Monte della Verna by Count Cattani to St. Francis with a fascinating event.
In Chiusi della Verna you can visit the "Podesteria" of Michelangelo, where you find traces of the great artist. Be moved by the sight of the landscapes depicted in his works. Recent studies have in fact highlighted the Verna landscape which can be seen in the "Tondo Doni" and the "Creation of Adam".
Lovely itineraries to follow around the surrounding villages where country life has remained and been preserved as if time has stopped: La Rocca, Vezzano, Sarna and Vallesanta.
