Casentino Forests National Park

Chiusi della Verna is on the south side of the National Park and part of its territory falls within a protected area. The Park, started in 1993, extends for more than 36,000 hectares and involves the provinces of Arezzo, Firenze and Forlì-Cesena. The heart of the park is represented by the "Demaniali" Forests of Casentino, an ancient forest, its management throughout the centuries has allowed conservation of long strips of forest of great naturalistic interest due to its un-spoilt quality and wealth of flora and fauna. Wolves, Royal Eagles, a consistent number of deer, fawn and fallow deer live in the Park. A network of 600 km of paths give plenty of places to see with interesting excursions which start in Chiusi della Verna.
